Goodyear gets outstanding supplier award

Goodyear Phils. Inc. announced it was recently honored as one of the 2007 Ten Outstanding Parts Suppliers for its exemplary performance as supplier of Mitsubishi Motors Phils. Corp. (MMPC). The awardees were selected for excellent performance in areas tied closely to MMPC's key business drivers including safety, quality, cost, customer service and productivity, Goodyear said.
A certificate was also awarded to Goodyear for "Product Excellence," citing the company's compliance with MMPC's quality standards and consistent delivery of high-quality products from July to December last year, the tire company bared. The certificate entitled Goodyear with privilege under MMPC's "Vendor Empowerment Program" in the next six months, which means all the parts to be supplied by Goodyear to MMPC will be free from inspection, it added.
"This recent recognition is another milestone for us at Goodyear, affirming our position among the best suppliers locally and globally," Goodyear President and Managing Director Dave Morin said. "It not only validates our commitment to continuous improvement and quality, it reinforces our dedication to a long and strengthened business relationship with MMPC as well."
The MMPC award is among the recognitions of excellence in quality and customer satisfaction received by Goodyear from other car manufacturers, the company said. According to Morin, Goodyear owes its success to the employees who have been the driving force that made it possible for Goodyear to achieve these recognitions.
"With their individual and combined efforts, Goodyear was able to satisfy MMPC's strict requirements. Our pool of highly skilled employees has also enabled us to maintain excellence and continually improve the quality of our products and service," he said.

Mazda opens pampanga facility

Mazda Phils. said its customers in the North no longer have to drive to Manila as it recently opened on May 15 its branch in San Fernando, Pampanga.
Located at the San Fernando-Gapan Road, Mazda Pampanga launched with a satellite showroom where test drives can be arranged and prospective buyers can be advised about Mazda's car financing plans, the carmaker said.
A larger main facility is being constructed along MacArthur Highway in Baliti, San Fernando, and will be ready in September, Mazda announced, while the main dealership located near Angeles City will have a complete service and parts center. Its service bay will be the largest area among all Mazda dealerships, the company said.
Mazda said its Pampanga facilities' opening is a response to the growing demand for its vehicles that are known for performance and styling, popularly dubbed the Zoom-Zoom spirit.
Mazda Pampanga can be reached at (045) 961-0860. You may also log on to www.mazda.com.ph.

Local parts makers to display electric jeep

The Motor Vehicle Parts Manufacturers Association of the Phils. (MVPMAP) announced that its Philippine Utility Vehicle (PhUV) project has evolved into the e-PhUV, an electric jeepney that it said does not rely on fossil fuel for power.
The MVPMAP said it has partnered with the Green Renewable Independent Power Producers (GRIPP) in its Climate-Friendly Cities Program. GRIPP, which counts among its members Greenpeace International, has secured foreign funding to build 50 units of the electric jeepneys that will be distributed to local governments as a component of its program.
Presently, it has already brought in from China two electric jeepneys in Makati City and four in Bacolod City. MVPMAP said it will display the e-PhUV electric jeepney prototype at its General Membership Meeting on May 29 at the Laguna Technopark in Santa Rosa, Laguna.
To revive the local auto parts making industry last year, the MVPMAP said it designed, developed and launched a prototype of the PhUV, which is an AUV-based vehicle that was designed with the small and medium entrepreneurs in mind. The MVPMAP said the PhUV has a high percentage of value-added local labor and parts as a countermeasure to soften the impact of the increasing influx of completely built-up units (CBU) that are imported without any value added to local labor and parts. Because of the increasing CBU importations, demand for local parts has gone down and, as a result, some MVPMAP members had to close shop. Those that are left are operating at only about 40 percent of their rated plant capacities.
MVPMAP bared the PhUV prototype is now a test vehicle for alternative fuels where its original diesel engine has been replaced with a gasoline engine that was retrofitted with an LPG kit.
