MEMBERS of the House of Representatives on Wednesday paid tribute to
the late militant, Anakpawis Rep. Crispin “Ka Bel” Beltran, in
necrological services held at the plenary hall of the Batasan
Pambansa.
The services were attended by Beltran’s widow,
Rosario, their 10 children, senior leaders of the House led by
Speaker Prospero Nograles, colleagues, including other party-list
representatives, and thousands of supporters from the labor sector.
In his homily, Father Joe Dizon paid tribute to
Beltran’s lifelong commitment in the fight for decent wages, land
reform and the protection of human rights.
The homily was applauded five times by the
jampacked plenary hall as Dizon called on Beltran’s supporters to
continue the late militant’s fight.
Dizon also called on the House leadership to act
on Beltran’s pending bills, including the measure for a legislated
P125 across-the-board wage hike for workers in the private sector.
Before the Mass ended, the labor groups shouted
in Filipino, “the fight must go on, raise the minimum wage by P125
nationwide.”
The remains of Beltran, who is on his last term
as party-list lawmaker, was laid to rest at the Angel of Meadows
Memorial and Nature Park in Angat, Bulacan.
