SUBIC BAY Freeport: The Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group-Task Force
Subic (PASG-TFS) and the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA)
seized some 770 kilos of high-grade shabu with an estimated value of
P4.62 billion on Tuesday.
PASG-TFS Chief Antonio Villar Jr. said the
illegal drug was packed in 70 boxes, allegedly owned by a certain
Anthony Ang, a Chinese based in Olongapo City and connected to Wa
Lung, a freeport locator.
Upon testing, the Philippine Drug Enforcement
Agency (PDEA) confirmed that the crystals contained in the boxes
were shabu.
In a joint press conference of SBMA and PASG-TFS
at the PASG office, SBMA Administrator Armand Arreza told reporters
that the locator concerned has been suspended, while the suspect Ang
escaped before he could be arrested and is now the subject of a
manhunt.
“We should be strict with suspicious shipment
like this because of all we know drug syndicates may be running
rings around us,” Villar said.
Villar ordered an in-depth investigation and the
filling of proper charges against those who may be responsible for
the foiled drug smuggling.
Villar said the confiscated drugs will be turned
over to PDEA and will be destroyed.
