Domestic rice production will get a needed shot
in the arm if the agriculture agencies of China and the Philippines
arrive at an agreement to commercialize Chinese hybrid rice
varieties in the country.
Ligaya Barroga, a science research specialist of
the Philippine-Sino Center for Agricultural Technology, told The
Manila Times that the next phase of the center’s program is to
commercialize Chinese hybrid rice varieties that have been proven
feasible for planting in the country. The center is a special
project of the Department of Agriculture and its Chinese
counterpart.
