President to visit United States in June

United States President George Bush will welcome his Philippine counterpart, President Gloria Arroyo, to the White House on June 24, the White House said in a statement on Thursday.

Bush will discuss with Mrs. Arroyo about bilateral cooperation on a broad range of areas, including matters about the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, counter-terrorism, defense reform, food security, and regional economic integration, the statement said.

“The US-Philippines alliance is grounded firmly in shared values of freedom, security and prosperity, and the president looks forward to discussions with President Arroyo on ways to enhance further our strong partnership and support for democracy in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond,” read a statement from White House spokeswoman Dana Perino.

The Philippines has been a strong ally of the US in Southeast Asia.

“The president welcomes the opportunity to talk to President Arroyo about ways to advance our close bilateral cooperation on a broad range of areas,” the statement added.
