CABUYAO, Laguna: A former soldier was among three people arrested
Friday over the murder of 10 people in one of the Philippines’
deadliest bank robberies, police said.
Authorities filed murder and weapons charges
against ex-soldier Ricardo Gomolon, 38, and two other suspects after
a 9-year-old witness identified Gomolon as the first of a group of
men who entered the bank.
One of the bank’s security guards, Joel de la
Cruz, was also arrested and charged.
He was on duty at the bank when it was robbed
two weeks ago, but went on unexplained and unauthorized leave
afterwards, the police report said.
Witnesses have told police the third detained
suspect was among two who dumped the gang’s getaway vehicle.
Police arrested Gomolon at his home near army
headquarters and seized a loaded and unlicensed pistol, a police
report said.
Police launched a manhunt for at least three
other suspects, including two who are also being sought for their
alleged involvement in other armed robberies in the region, the
statement said.
Police killed four other suspects near Cabuyao
last week, but four officers have been placed under investigation
amid allegations that at least three of the suspects were unarmed at
the time.
