DISGRUNTLED parents of swimmers,
coaches and club owners called on the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC)
to hold an election to replace Philippine Amateur Swimming
Association president Mark Joseph, who, they claimed has illegally
been assuming his position the past three years.
Sisters Jane Ong, a lawyer
working at the Ombudsman, and Susie, a former Manila councilor, and
the designated spokespersons of the group, said that since the POC
is bound to call for an election since it was the one that installed
Joseph to the post.
“We parents, coaches and club
owners are urging the POC to immediately carry out the provisions
embodied an agreement imposed by the arbitration committee saying
that Joseph must call regional election in the National Capital
Region, Regions I, VI, VII, VIII and IX preparatory for the election
of the PASA president,” Jane Ong said during the SCOOP forum at
the Kamayan Restaurant in Padre Faura Friday.
“Elections in those regions
must first be held in order that an election of PASA president could
be elected,” Jane said, explaining that under the PASA charter,
presidents of the regional organizations are the ones tasked with
electing members of the board, who in turn, elects the PASA national
president.
The POC, in fact, the duo
claimed, has only recognized Regions III, IV, V, X, XI and XII as
the only ones that submitted their election results.
“Once these provisions are
undertaken, only then will Joseph’s hold of the PASA presidency
can be legitimized, “Susie said.
