A speaker system is an essential part of any multimedia experience
and picking one that could satisfy your ear is certainly a tough
one. So, this week, Tech Times features two speaker systems that we
think would eventually give you a short list: the Philips
HTS6515—a virtual 5.1 surround sound home theater system that uses
only a 2.1 setup and the Altec Lansing VS2521, a speaker system for
your desktop PC.
What is it: Virtual 5.1 surround sound
system on a 2.1 speaker setup.
Who’s it for: People who want to be
surrounded by virtual sound rather than be surrounded by wires.
Wallet magnet: Philips Ambisound
technology (the one that creates the virtual surround sound
experience); über stylish European design; powerful yet clean sub
woofer with overall great sound quality; unique top-loading DVD
player/media control center; HD output-ready; accepts external
digital media sources including USB devices; Philips quality.
On second thought: Some may find three
speaker-surround sound a bit exaggerated; pricey.
What’s in the box: Two horizontal
mid/hi speakers; big sub-woofer; DVD-player/media control center
with a full remote control; A/V , HDMI cables; speaker brackets;
quick start guide and manual.
Tech Times’ verdict: We love the sound
and we love the easy setup. A bit pricey though.
Altc Lansing VS2521 2.1 Speakers
What is it: A 2.1 speaker system for
desktop computers.
Who’s it for: People looking for a good
speaker system for their computer or digital media players.
Wallet magnet: Unique design lets you use
speakers in a horizontal or vertical configuration that could fit
below the PC monitor; 5-1/4" long throw driver for the bass;
easy to set-up.
On second thought: A few more buck
you’ll get a better model and brand.
What’s in the box: Two satellite
speakers; sub woofer; audio cables; wired remote; quick start guide.
Tech Times’ verdict: For the price,
this Altec Lansing delivers the goods.
