‘100’ stars off to Morocco

The special screening of the Chris Martinez film 100 at the MY Cinema in Greenbelt served as a send-off to the stars who will represent the film and the country in the Marrakech International Film festival in Morocco.

Lead stars Mylene Dizon and Eugene Domingo are leaving for Morocco tomorrow with the film director and hopefully they’ll come home with good news next week. Both Mylene and Eugene have won acting awards for the film, which also bagged the $20,000 Audience Award when it competed at the Busan International Film festival in Korea last month.

Mylene, who is four months pregnant with her second child, is excited. “ I wasn’t able to attend the Busan filmfest so I’m making sure that I go this time. My doctors have given me the go signal to travel and I’m sure it will be an enriching experience.”

On the other hand, Eugene feels good that making quality independent films bring her to different places. “Working on indie films do not pay as much as we normally get, but the tradeoffs are priceless. Actors are treated very well and compensation is always given on time. I’ve been to Korea and now, I’m going to Morocco. Life is fair indeed.”

The film, which was recently graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board, will have its commercial run starting December 3, distributed by Star Cinema.

Geoff Eigenmann and Maja Salvador in a special love story

After winning the Catholic Mass Media Award for best drama anthology, Charo Santos-Concio’s Maalaala Mo Kaya has again, come up with a wonderful story that will feature two of the most promising young actors of ASB-CBN: Geoff Eigenmann and Maja Salvador. The special episode will air tomorrow night.

The team-up is obviously part of a bigger plan for the comeback of these two stars after being given good breaks in the past. Maja’s career seems to be going downhill after a much-hyped entry in showbiz last year. She even landed endorsement deals but even these didn’t help her momentum. Undeniably a good actress, Maja is in dire need of a project that will redefine her. Her last outing on film with Ryan Agoncillo was a major flop — we couldn’t even remember the title.

Meanwhile, Geoff is one of the best looking that the Eigenmann clan has produced but after his leading man stint in the TV drama series Hiram, his career took a dive, too. People say that he is too chubby to be a matinee idol but the last time we saw him, Geoff has already lost considerable weight. “I do boxing regularly, “ we remember him telling us. Some production people say that he has a tendency to be bulol when delivering his lines and we think that he is aware of this, and is trying his best to correct his speaking skills.

We learned that this episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya is a heart-wrenching episode under the direction of Henry Quitain, Geoff will portray a role of a man who is never serious in his romantic relationships, and then meets and falls in love Maja, which will give way to change.

The very first Internet teleradyo

Technology is something we cannot stop from evolving.

Radio station NU107, home of rock music in the country, has recently team-up with tech-savvy Fliptunes.net to bring the first-ever teleradyo on the internet.

This project came about when Fliptunes president Ronald Aniceto mentioned that most of the songs downloaded by our kababayans overseas are with reference to what they see on Filipino TV channels abroad. “It certainly does not update them on current hits from other genres available from their homeland,” he explains.

Of the thousands of tracks available for online purchase by overseas Filipinos, only around 40 percent are used due mainly to familiarity. “We are hoping that marketing local music on the internet will make a difference in giving consumers a wider choice and improve movements of other available good music, which the Philippines has a lot of, “ Aniceto adds.

NU107 station manager Cris Hermosisima says of the venture: “These are exciting times for radio. We are proud to be the carrier of Filipino music abroad and the better part is that our kababayans will get to appreciate our radio shows visually this time. It also widens our reach to local listeners who spends a lot of time on their laptops.”
