The Italians do Chikka too

Manila-based Chikka.com, creators of the popular Internet gateway to texting mobile phones, announced its connectivity to the Smart Pinoy mobile network in Italy, expanding its European mobile reach to three countries. Mobile operators in the UK and Spain earlier opened their networks to Chikka allowing Chikka’s online community to send free text messages to mobile subscribers in those countries.

Just like mobile subscribers in the UK and Spain, Smart Pinoy Italy users are able to sign-in to Chikka using their mobile numbers to enjoy Chikka’s patented mobile instant messaging system “on-the-go” via SMS.

“Chikka Text Messenger has been in wide use by Filipinos in Italy to send free text to loved ones in Manila since 2001. With our recent connectivity to Smart Pinoy Italy, Chikka extends the full benefits of mobile instant messaging to the community there. This means they can go offline, away from their computers and still continue Chikka texting,” said Chito Bustamante, Chikka chief executive officer.

“The Global Filipino is indeed one of the most sophisticated citizens of the world today; what with their very own Chikka, and what with innovative mobile network operators who provide communications solutions for Pinoys everywhere we are,” Bustamante added.

Chikka Text Messenger’s mobile network now includes the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, India, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Guam and the Philippines. With over 45 million registering to use the service since 2001, it is one of the most widely used Internet and mobile-based communications medium by Filipinos worldwide. The community welcomed 5.25 million new members for the first half of 2008.
