Bañares advances to knockout round

REIGNING national junior champion Jericho Bañares introduced himself to big time pool with a flourish.

The country’s top bet in this year’s World Junior Pool Championship took the measure of Thorsten Hohmann of Germany, 9-7, to secure a spot in the knockout phase of the World Ten Ball Championship Wednesday at the Philippine International Convention Center.

It was the second win of Bañares against the former World Pool Championship winner in as many meetings. He also scalped Hoh-mann during the Mandaluyong Mayor’s Cup of the Philippine Pool Tour.
