A US view: Resume RP-MILF peace talks

As fresh fighting broke out between government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front troops across Mindanao following the end of Ramadan, peace talks between the two groups remained stalled and fears grew over of a bigger, bloodier war that could doom peace and stability in the Southern Philippines for decades.

President Gloria Arroy has abandoned the peace talks following attacks by MILF renegades on a number of villages in strife-torn municipalities. The Supreme Court earlier stalled a Memorandum of Agreement on the Moro-claimed ancestral domain. Malacañang called on the secessionists to disarm and disband to allow the reintegration of former rebels.
