OFW support crucial amid US credit crunch

IF there is any lesson we can learn from past economic crises, it is that the Filipino family will find a way to cope. This is why prognostications about the impact of the ongoing US financial turmoil on overseas Filipino worker (OFW) remittances are misguided.

If we looked at the last biggest crisis the Philippines faced, domestic consumption by households actually held up relatively well. Maybe not as robust as before the crisis, but as in good times, personal consumption expenditures remained the main driver of the economy.
