Thousands of overseas Filipino workers may be returning home this year and the next as the global economic crisis worsens and choke growth and job markets in many labor-importing countries around the world.

Expected to bear the brunt are the domestic helpers who are favored for their industry, skills and devotion to work by employers in several continents. The domestics form the bulk of the OFW population. Tiny Hong Kong alone is home to more than 150,000 maids.
