Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam: The megapixel battle on stand-alone digital
cameras may be slowing down but not for mobile phones.
Samsung recently launched its eight-mega pixel
mobile phone—a first on a Symbian OS-based mobile phone that
company officials said would offer a powerful mobile photography and
multimedia experience.
“The INNOV8 is the latest addition to
Samsung’s line-up of Infotainment phones, and demonstrates our
commitment to offer consumers a mobile for every lifestyle. Its
robust imaging and multimedia features, including an eight megapixel
camera, pre-embedded 3D games and high-speed data connectivity, are
tailored to meet the needs of consumers who want maximum features in
their phones so they can be entertained and stay connected to the
world,” said Mr.Jeong-Wook Kim, vice president and chief marketing
officer, Southeast Asia and Oceania, Samsung Asia in a press
statement at a media conference at the Sheraton Hotel in Ho Chi Minh
City.
The new Samsung i8510 or INNOV8 is encased in a
sleek metallic design incorporating features of the latest imaging
applications such as Smile Shot, Blink Shot and face recognition
functions, which allows users to capture photographic moments in the
best quality available.
This mobile phone also has a crystal clear
2.8” 16 million color LCD designed to provide users with the best
possible viewing of mobile multimedia applications such as 3D
gaming. Its large 16GB onboard Flash memory will also allow users to
use the INNOV8 into a mobile multimedia library for music,
photographs and videos.
Aside from an 8MP camera, this phone also
includes a virtual optical mouse, a four-way navigation key, HSDPA
and WiFi connectivity, plus a preloaded advanced GPS technology for
location-based applications. The latest Symbian OS v9.3 Series 60
rel. 3.2 is used on the INNOV8, to help users to easily download
various third-party applications for Symbian mobiles.
Samsung launched the world’s first five
megapixel camera phone in 2004, first seven megapixel camera phone
in 2005 and the groundbreaking 10 megapixel SCH-B600 in the Korean
market in 2006.
“The INNOV8 will be launched in the Philippines by the second week
of September” according to Gerry Lacson, Philippine general
manager for Samsung.
