Citing the AAP and RMF test figures, TMP revealed the Vios 1.3 J
with manual transmission posted 23.10kpl; the Vios 1.5 G XX Limited
Edition with manual transmission posted 21.57kpl; and the Vios 1.5 G
with automatic transmission posted 20.13kpl. Meanwhile, the Altis
1.6 G with manual transmission posted 19.27kpl; the Altis 1.6 V with
automatic transmission posted 17.83kpl; and the Altis 1.8 V with
automatic transmission posted 17.70kpl. TMP assured the tests were
conducted under safe and normal driving conditions.
According to the carmaker, the RMF team of Mike
Reyes, Art Guevarra, Bebot Reyes, Albert Narciso, Udy Enriques and
Danny Santiago tested three different variants each of the Vios and
Altis for two days. The team drove the six vehicles from Balintawak,
Alaminos, Pangasinan and Subic on the first day and took the same
route back to Manila on the second day. The run was divided into six
legs that tackled city traffic, highway cruising and uphill and
downhill slopes, TMP said.
“There are three main objectives in this fuel
economy run,” said TMP First Vice President for Marketing Daniel
Isla. “First is to gauge the fuel-efficiency of the Vios and the
Altis. Second is to measure their consumption under safe and normal
driving conditions. And third is to teach the public that proper
driving habits and vehicle maintenance result in better mileage for
their vehicles,” Isla explained.
He added “Toyota does not want to deceive its
customers by giving fuel mileage records that were not the result of
employing normal driving conditions. We want to show that we can
provide them with fuel-efficient products but the rest is up to
them.”
For its part, AAP ensured that RMF set the right
conditions by following speed limits of 80kph to 100kph on highways
and 40kph to 60kph in school zones or populated areas. The
vehicles’ air-conditioners were at their lowest fan setting and
their tire pressure were at standard 30psi, TMP said.
