The violence of bodyguards

Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group Chairman Antonio Villar Jr’s bodyguards were involved in at least two unpleasant incidents last month. The episodes had nothing to do with smuggling, the crime his special unit is mandated to confront and destroy.

Members of his security detail were accused of mauling a businessman who later spent a week in a pricey hospital for bruises and a temporary loss of memory. The roughing-up on August 19 took place in a five-star Makati hotel where businessman Simon Paz apparently insisted on using a restroom where Villar and a companion were having a conversation.
