Executive privilege upheld

Court votes 9-6 against Senate
|
|
Officials of the executive branch can invoke
their right to “executive privilege” in refusing to appear
before congressional inquiries, even under pain of arrest.
The Supreme Court en banc, by a 9-6 vote, ruled
so on Thursday.
The ruling junked a Senate motion seeking
reversal of the High Tribunal’s earlier decision granting a
petition of Chairman Romulo Neri of the Social Security System to
defend himself with “executive privilege” from accusations of
wrongdoing in a canceled national broadband deal.
