Tado Jimenez seriously

By Perry Gil S. Mallari

DJ Tado—Arvin Jimenez in real life—first caught the public’s fancy as the off-the-wall, Volkswagen Beetle-driving host of the magazine show Strangebrew aired on a cable channel years back. In a time when the viewers were sick and tired of boring, brain-dead hosts, the timing of his entry to television was perfect. Jimenez has it all down pat—a unique cartoony look, a caustic wit and a weird sense of humor. In no time, the character of Tado gained a cult following and was enshrined as a pop culture icon.

Jimenez’s persona is a contradiction of sorts. From Monday to Friday, 9 p.m. to midnight, he wreaks hilarious havoc hosting the radio program Brewrats on 95.5 RT with Ramon Bautista and Angel Rivero (his former co-host in Strangebrew). On air, it’s not unusual for DJ Tado to talk about his odd fancy of eating polar bears or joke about his beloved Pasay City where he spent most of his teenage life. “Pag taga-Pasay ka at hindi ka umiinom, you’re a born-again [If you’re a Pasay resident and you’re not drinking you’re a born-again Christian],” he once quipped.
