This is no ordinary band competition. With the Nescafé Soundskool
Mentorship Program, the winning band gets to learn from the masters
of Pinoy rock today.
Sandwich, Sugarfree, Hale, Spongecola, Imago,
Rivermaya, Itchyworms, Urbandub, Coffeebreak Island, JR Kilat, and
Moonstar 88 have served as the finalists’ mentor-bands.
Under the mentorship program, the final
contenders are provided pieces of advice and inspiration from the
Philippines’ band icons.
“It was a very rare opportunity to be with our
idols,” said the members of Lazy Susan, the winners of the 2008
NESCAFé Soundskool. “Hale [who served as their mentor-band] is
one of the top bands in the country and we learned a lot from
them.”
The fourth Soundskool competition for 2009
promises to be no less exciting, challenging and instructive.
Soundskool is open to all unsigned bands with
three to five members who are currently enrolled in a university or
college. They must be 16 to 26 years old, Filipino citizens, or have
resided in the Philippines for at least one year.
The college/university being represented by the
band should at least have one member enrolled in the said
college/university.
The band is also required to submit a written
endorsement letter signed by the authorized school personnel. Other
