Another big step backward

The Supreme Court’s ruling last week to uphold its March ruling on the Neri vs. Senate Committee case, in effect, affirms the right of the President and her chosen people to hide—from the Congress, the media or any person or institution seeking the truth about the executive’s activities—their lies, their attempts to lie and to commit acts that could be criminal or are in fact criminal.

This decision, in the words of Justice Teresita Leonardo de Castro, who also wrote the March ponencia, takes away from the Congress—“the political branches of government”—the right and duty to seek the truth about a crime or an attempt to commit a crime in the course of a congressional hearing in aid of legislation.
