A credible registration list

Very few public officials and private citizens have expressed concern about the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) controversial registration list, the official registry of enrolled qualified voters. The national focus is on the automation of the 2010 elections, when computerization is expected to speed up the system of casting ballots and the tabulation of results, helping ensure peaceful and credible elections.

The Comelec is eyeing two options for automated voting, both tested in the recent elections in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Either system is an improvement over the current manual process of voting and counting and should bring the Philippines closer to the modern age of suffrage.
