DOJ: No escape for Meralco

Justice secretary bent on pushingcharges of estafa

The Justice department has stepped on the gas against Meralco.

It said Wednesday that the syndicated estafa charges filed against 16 top executives of the Lopez-owned utility would stay even if the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) refunds meter deposits of its customers.

“The payment will not extinguish the crime,” Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez insisted.
