OSG says proclamation valid, legal

Solicitor General calls Comelec ruling on citizenship issue as worthless due to lack of jurisdiction

 
THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has no jurisdiction to rule on the validity of Filipino citizenship acquired by one from his or her parents, according to the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG).

This cropped-up in a 37-page memorandum submitted by Solicitor General Agnes Devanadera to the Supreme Court (SC), stressing that the Comelec’s disqualification of Negros Oriental Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong as congressional candidate in the 2007 election did not attain finality because the Comelec has no jurisdiction to declare that her father did not validly acquire Filipino citizenship.
