MILF welcomes chance to bring its cause to UN

Islamic law provides a guideline for determining whether a child is a minor 

 
COTABATO City: An Islamic scholar who is well-versed in the interpretation of the Qur’anic injunctions said Monday that the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) from the perspective of Islamic Law may have either committed violation or none at all in using so-called “child soldiers.”

Imam Jamiul Jasim, of Masjid Al-Kaumpang in Jatih Tunggal, Indanan, Sulu who was reached by phone told The Manila Times that his guideline is based on Islamic law as to whether the child is still a minor or has already reached the age of majority. He said the MILF might have violated the Qur’anic injunction if these “child soldiers” are really minors from the point of view of Islam being sent to the battlefield. He explained to be considered as a minor in Islam, a child has to be 14 years old.
