Sole love

Luis Gatmaitan and Beth Parocha-Doctolero’s Sandosenang Sapatos

Pulling it off a bookshelf, Sandosenang Sapatos (A Dozen Pairs of Shoes) written by Luis Gatmaitan MD and illustrated by Beth Parocha-Doctolero is hardly distinguishable from other children’s books. Like other works in this class, the title whets one’s curiosity and the cover art is an eye-candy.

Sandosenang Sapatos is a short story for children and is therefore a quick read. But it is in its brevity where its literary merit lies. Gatmaitan, using common language and concise text, manages to convey to readers such deep emotions as regret, hope and love.
