Verzosa’s assumption as new chief the Philippine National Police
on September 27 raises new hopes and expectations for urgent reforms
in the PNP.
He replaces Director General
Avelino Razon Jr. who leaves a mixed record in the police
organization. Razon takes pride in his “Mamang Pulis” program as
his greatest legacy to public service after serving for 12 months as
national chief. Camp Crame watchers, however, say the program served
the public image of the PNP but not the core needs of the
120,000-plus police officers and law and order in the country.
