ALL NEW NORTON 2009

It’s about speed and performance

By Jing Garcia, Tech Times editor

Sepang, Malaysia: Ever wonder why your computer is still slow? This, despite having a fast multi-core processor, the largest number of RAM you can get, and even the latest updated operating system from Microsoft.

There may be two reasons why your PC is such a road hog on your productivity: First, it may be infected by a malicious software (e.g. virus, spyware, etc.); the other, your anti-virus software is doing such a good job in keeping your computer clean from viruses and other security attacks that it’s actually slowing down your PC. Believe it or not, many anti-virus software eat a lot of PC resources and Symantec is definitely aware of this.

So, for their latest Norton Internet Security 2009 and Norton AntiVirus 2009 products, Symantec has set a new standard for speed and performance. Speed: for faster deployment and easy online updates. And performance: for a more comprehensive security protection.

The new Norton 2009 products were designed with a “zero impact” performance goal, supported by more than 300 improvements that span nearly every aspect of the product; from the scanning engine to the user interface.

“The emphasis is on speed, and to bring a product which is really the industry’s fastest yet most secure is very significant,” said David Freer, vice president, Symantec Consumer Business for Asia Pacific and Japan.

Symantec executives, in a media briefing at the Sepang F1 International Circuit in Malaysia, guarantee that the new Norton products are light on computer resources and reengineered for speed.

The Norton 2009 alone includes hundreds of performance enhancements and introduces new technologies, such as: Community intelligence-driven Norton Insight technology that removes the need to scan common files; thus, reducing the number of files that have to be scanned regularly; and, Pulse Updates, which every 5 to 15 minutes deliver the latest protection updates, faster than any other competitor.

Other new features of Norton 2009 are: Fastest installation at 52 seconds as clocked by independent third party test lab, PassMark Software; least working memory usage—using less than 7MB of the computer system’s resources; and fastest quick scan lasting only 33 seconds for the entire computer system.

A comprehensive protection is provided with the Norton Protection System, a multi-layered system of technologies that work together to stop threats before it impacts any computer system. An independent security software firm, AV-test, released results for malware protection analysis on the 2009 security suites with the detection of 98 percent for malware, 95 percent for spyware, plus producing no false positives.

“Norton is the world’s leading security company, obviously, we learned that consumers changed products because of performance; performance is absolutely critical for a consumer,” said Freer. “We’ve focused on making the best performing software out there that would keep more happy Norton customers; that means being a Norton user as well as a Norton employee, we will be getting the intelligence we need to protect more people around the world.”
