By Josef T. Ramos, Correspondent
GERSON NIETES and Charly Suarez showed fellow Filipino that there is
something to be proud of, when they debuted with aplomb in the 31st
King’s Cup boxing tournament late Saturday at the swank
Gwangwongwan Mall in Bangkok, Thailand.
The light flyweight Nietes of Negros Occidental
rallied past Syrian Wardie Halder in the 54-kilogram class, while
featherweight Suarez dominated Chantasone Xayyalak of Laos in the
57-kilogram division to both advance to the next round. Gerson is
the nephew of World Boxing Organization light-minimumweight champion
Donnie “Ahas” Nietes.
