Indonesia votes amid economic crisis
|
|
JAKARTA: Indonesians go to the polls this week with echoes of the
1997 to 1998 Asian financial crisis ringing in their ears, as growth
estimates are slashed and politicians scramble to offer hopes of a
rebound.
Southeast Asia’s biggest economy was one of
the worst hit by the economic firestorm that swept through the
region a decade ago and memories of those desperate times remain
seared in Indonesians’ memories.
