BEIJING: China announced its slowest economic growth in at least a
decade on Thursday, but analysts said there were some signs that the
worst could be over for the Asian exporting giant.
The world’s third-biggest economy posted growth of 6.1 percent in
the first quarter of the year, down from 6.8 percent in the final
three months of 2008, underlining the impact the global crisis is
having on China.
MANAGUA: Nicaragua said it had given a diplomatic passport to
Thailand’s fugitive former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra,
whose Thai passport was revoked on charges of inciting violence.
JERUSALEM: US envoy George Mitchell was to press the two-state
solution Thursday in meetings with senior officials in Israel, where
hawkish new Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opposes a Palestinian
