Exploring options

Ford Phils. completes North American model lineup with the introduction of 2009 Explorer Eddie Bauer

The Explorer Eddie Bauer is the latest in FGP’s North America-made models, providing consumers another option along with the Ford Expedition EL and Ford E-150 Club Wagon.

“The Ford Explorer has been the benchmark SUV for capability, safety and luxury for more than two decades and we are delighted that, once again, we are bringing to the Filipino customer the best of our products,” FGP President Rick Baker said.

According to FGP, the Explorer in Eddie Bauer trim is “inspired by the great outdoors” while reflecting its customers’ “casual and versatile lifestyles,” the carmaker identifying them as “people who want a vehicle that can take them anywhere they want to go in style—whether it be a weekend of backpacking or an evening at the ballet.”

Comfort, safety features

FGP said the Explorer Eddie Bauer boasts of creature comforts such as a cabin wrapped in leather, adjustable driver and passenger seats, individual temperature settings for the driver and passenger, an Audiophile six-disc in-dash CD/MP3 player with six speakers and a subwoofer and a supplementary DVD entertainment system that allows rear passengers to watch movies and play video games.

A new feature in Ford’s latest sport-ute is the power-adjust function for the vehicle’s accelerator and brake pedals, which can be suited to fit individual preferences (the device also has a memory setting). The Explorer’s rear-view mirror now comes with electro-chromic dimming, which automatically adjusts according to light conditions.

Ford’s proprietary features are lavished on the vehicle as well. The PowerFold third-row seat allow for push-button convenience in seating configuration adjustment. The EasyFuel cap-less fuel filler eliminates gas odors and reduces evaporative emissions that contribute to global warming. The Explorer’s Trailer Sway Control, meanwhile, is a new stability-control device that functions with the AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, which determines if the vehicle and the trailer it’s hauling are getting out of control and take corrective measures like applying precise braking or cutting engine torque.

“Ford is committed to continuing to develop features and technologies that help make the driving experience easier and safer,” Baker said.

So in terms of safety features, the Explorer Eddie Bauer has Ford’s Safety Canopy side-impact protection system that’s designed for rollover crashes.

Ford’s Belt-Minder is a safety-belt reminder technology for the driver and front passenger that takes over after the initial reminder stops chiming. The Intelligent Safety System, FGP explained, is a suite of advanced adaptive technologies that help protect occupants, including dual-stage front air bags and occupant classification.

The Explorer Eddie Bauer is now in Ford dealerships and is priced at P2.295 million.
