TEHRAN: Iran on Saturday put on trial around 100
people, including top reformists and aides of opposition leaders, on
charges of rioting after the disputed reelection of Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad as president in June.
The trial in a revolutionary
court comes as Ahmadinejad, due to be sworn in on August 5 for a new
four-year term, sought to ease political tensions by denying a rift
with all-powerful supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
SEOUL: North Korea on Saturday
said a South Korean fishing boat it seized had “illegally
intruded” into its territorial waters in its first direct official
response to the incident.
TEGUCIGALPA: Ousted President
Manuel Zelaya threatened the interim government of Honduras with
“generalized violence” if he is not restored to power. “Either
the coup is reversed or generalized violence is coming,”
