Homegrown Aguilar vows to live up to hype
|
|
By Frank Calapre, Correspondent
AFTER four years, a true blooded Filipino was finally selected as
the number one pick in the 2009 Philippine Basketball Association
Annual Rookie Draft on Sunday at the Fort’s Market! Market! In
Taguig City. Japeth Aguilar’s selection by Burger King at the top
spot was the first for a homegrown talent after Filipino-Americans
Kelly Williams, Joe Devance and Gabe Norwood dominated the scene.
Rich Alvarez was the last local to be drafted by Shell in 2005.
The 6’9” Aguilar, who played for two years
with Ateneo in the UAAP before trying his luck with the Western
Kentucky University in the United States, hopes to do well in the
pro league.
