Four honor guards
|
|
The four honor guards who accompanied the body of the late President
Corazon Aquino for nine hours from the Manila Cathedral to the Parañaque
memorial lot deserve our spirited salute. But are we overdoing it?
Sen. Loren Legarda said giving the ceremonial
guards cash for doing their duty was probably a thoughtful act, but
the gift “monetized” their gesture. It put a money value on
their work, which she called their “finest hours.” The honor
guards received P25,000 each from the family and friends of the
beloved president.
