Business, religious sectors 
want role in peace talks

Cotabato City: Members of the business and religious communities have surprisingly been active lately in demanding extensive participation in the 11-year-old peace process between the government peace panel and its counterpart in the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).More than 400 businessmen from five southern provinces signed last weekend a manifesto urging the MILF, the executive department of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process to convert into a “peace zone” the immediate surroundings of the Polloc Port in Maguindanao province, which is inside the jurisdiction of the ARMM’s Regional Export Zone Authority in Parang municipality.

The Polloc Port is the ARMM’s biggest and traders port in the region, thus, want it to developed into a regional industrial site to generate much-needed investments that can help provide impoverished Muslims in the area with decent livelihoods.
