Judiciary’s SALN under fire

Justices, judges not baring Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Networth for 20 years

The judiciary plans to reexamine its existing ruling of not disclosing to the public the Statements of Assets, Liabilities andNetworth (SALN) of justices and judges. The ruling, contained in a resolution of the Supreme Court, has been enforced for 20 years.

The plan, according to a source of The Manila Times, apparently was a reaction to a recent series of reports made by the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) on President Gloria Arroyo’s SALN, which the center said were deficient. It also apparently was the reply to a PCIJ request to the High Tribunal that the justices and judges do so.
