MUSICAL EDUCATION

At least for one of the country’s thriving musical talents, “staying in school” en route to fame is far from being a sour note.

As the bassist of Letter Day Story, the recent winner of the Nescafe 3in1 Soundskool competition, Oliver Agustin is well on his way to a bigger stage. With singles like “Ikaw Pa Rin” and a sound indicative of their contemporary “Pinoy-rock” roots, he and his band mates are in a slow but steady penetration of the music industry. But while he continues to credit their band’s six year stay at the underground scene it is ironically “an intercollegiate competition” that ultimately schooled them on the requisites of musical recognition and allowed theirs talent to be heard by wider audience.
