Stimulus
|
|
The Philippine economy is not exactly on a free-fall. The current
year will most likely see a two percentage drop in the gross
domestic product (GDP) and job losses numbering to tens of
thousands. The overseas employment picture is not as bright either
but the worst-case scenario—because of the fixed contracts and
continuous hiring—will not result in an economic shell shock.
Still, there is no reason for government to act
as if it were still times of economic stability. There is no reason
to be smug and complacent. The experts’ view that we are one of
the few countries to be hit by a signal number 1-type (not a
category 5 economic hurricane that has hit Iceland and the United
States) of tropical economic storm should not be a source of real
relief.

By the time this sees print, the Senate blue-ribbon committee would
probably have issued its report on its investigation of the

Annoying people ruin your day. Dealing with them is a real
challenge. On a bad day, they bring bad luck and gloom. In other
days, they dampen the promise of sunshine and laughter.

I have heard many times our national anthem. Admittedly, on more

are played—forgetting that for the freedom I casually enjoy today,
lives were...

Not as pessimistic as columnist Malinao
I have to take issue with the article “Is
alternative energy a truly viable alternative?” by Mr. Alito L.
Malinao (January 13, 2009). Here in Indiana we are not so
pessimistic. The fact is we have no choice but to change.
