Amkor lays off 1,500 in RP

Declining orders to blame for cuts, says firm’s VP 

 
Electronics company Amkor Technology Inc. has laid off 1,500 workers from its two plants in the Philippines because of declining orders, a company official said Friday.

The redundancies are the latest blow to the Philippines’ once-booming electronics sector, which has slowed since accounting for over 60 percent of the country’s exports between August and November 2007.
