Veterans get recognition

Acknowledgment in US stimulus package

WASHINGTON, D.C.: President Barack Obama signed on Wednesday the economic stimulus bill that also grants Filipino World War II veterans long-awaited recognition and compensation for their service alongside US forces against the Japanese.

The measure authorizes a one-time lump sum payment for an estimated 18,000 surviving Filipino veterans—$15,000 for those who are US citizens and $9,000 for non-US citizens.
