The USA and Indonesia
|
|
FEW Filipinos (utterly few relative to our 90-plus million
population) give a hoot about our country being left out of US
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s Asian itinerary. But there is
a reason to feel bad about it. Specially since this is the first
time ever that a new American secretary of state has chosen to use
her first trip abroad to punctuate the importance of
Asia—especially China, Japan, South Korea and Indonesia/Asean.
We should however rejoice that Secretary Clinton
has stressed the importance of Asean/Indonesia in this historic
trip. We are, after all, an important part of Asean—in fact one of
its founders. And China, Japan and South Korea are our largest and
most important trading partners, beside the USA.
