The Malate social scene

Socialista: neither snobbis, nor Marxist

THE name itself is out of place. And as its outdoor speakers blare a nightly riot of techno music amidst the multitude of live bands and beerhouse banter, one can easily tell that in Malate, the Socialista Bar stands as a completely separate entity. Unique with its LED-lit dance floor, its international cuisine, and its shamelessly elaborate interior, it began reeling in a different crowd since its establishment back in 2008. And now, after successfully weathering its first year, the bar continues its mission of redefining the nightlife capital of Manila.

“Despite the recession, business is actually pretty good,” its owner, Jong Garcia told The Manila Times. “I’m happy that Socialista is gaining more popularity.”
