Baler, awarded Best Film of the 2008 Metro
Manila Film Festival (MMFF), is not director Mark Meily’s finest
work. That is yet to come. The youngish 41-year-old director has

films espousing raw, do-it-yourself guerrilla aesthetics, Meily
began his career with the mighty bang of well-choreographed
artillery barrage—box- office hits that starred the biggest
celebrities and had the highest production values in cinematography,
lighting, sound and video editing.

their churches,” he simply says.
