Doņa Mary Ejercito, the mother of former President Joseph
Erap Estrada, died Tuesday. She was 103.
The former president and his siblings, including
Sen. Jose Jinggoy Estrada and Mayor Joseph Victor JV
Ejercito of San Juan City, were keeping watch on Doņa Mary when she
passed away.
Ejercito said his grandmother died around 4:15
p.m. at the San Juan Medical Center in San Juan City, Metro Manila.
A statement from the Estrada camp said Doņa
Mary died of multiple organ failure, adding that her kidneys had
shut down four days before her death.
According to the physician on-call, Dr. Gina
Bagsic, Doņa Mary had been on a respirator for over a year and had
also experienced pneumonia as a consequence of possible infections
from the respirator, the statement read.
The doctors tried to revive Doņa Mary
earlier this afternoon, but she was no longer responding, it
said.
Ejercito said his grandmothers body would be
brought to the Saint John the Baptist Church in San Juan City.
In December last year, Estrada hurriedly left an
interfaith rally against Charter change in Makati City even before
addressing the crowd, citing his mothers condition.
At the time, Doņa Mary was complaining of
difficulty in breathing. Tests results showed that her blood
pressure had gone down.
