Govt to push for new
taxes

THE Philippine would push for new
tax measures, as the government is hard-pressed raising resources to
finance a fiscal stimulus package meant to cushion the impact of a
global economic slowdown.
In a speech before the Philippine
Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Friday, Finance Secretary
Margarito Teves said that Congress should immediately enact
legislative measures that would beef up collections, including
raising taxes on tobacco and alcohol products.
