ICRC rescue hampers anti-rebel drive

Government operations against the al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf group (ASG) have been hampered by the kidnappings of three Red Cross members in Sulu province in the southern Philippine, Defense chief Gilberto Teodoro said Friday.

Gunmen kidnapped Thursday Swiss national Andreas Notter, Italian Eugene Vagni and Filipina Marie Jean Lacaba, all members of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), who inspected a prison facility in the town of Patikul.
