President Gloria Arroyo may just offer retired Maj.
Gen. Jovito Palparan some work to do at the Dangerous Drug Board (DBB),
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita hinted as much yesterday.
However, Ermita said Palparan’s
position has not been ascertained, saying he has yet to discuss the
matter with DBB Chairman Vicente “Tito” Sotto.
He also made it clear that the
Palace is not considering any position for Palparan in the
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
“We are looking at a position
in the Dangerous Drugs Board,” Ermita emphasized to reporters in
Malacañang on Friday, further stressing “there’s no
replacement; we are still [talking] to Sotto what the title could
be.”
Palparan, who is close to
President Arroyo, became controversial during his stint in the
military because of his alleged involvement in extrajudicial
killings of militant leaders.
Meanwhile, the appointment of
retired Philippine National Police chief Arturo Lomibao to the Land
Transportation Office (LTO) was being canceled, Ermita said Friday.
He said Lomibao did not accept
the LTO post, the reason the President decided to retain him at his
current post as head of the National Counter-terrorism Action Group.
With this development, LTO chief
Alberto Suansing and Chairman Thompson Lantion of the Land
Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board will remain at their
respective posts.
