Crisis, elections feed graft

Corruption‘brutal’ to poor – UN


Corruption in the Philippines would be in the good company of the global economic crisis and the 2010 elections in the country, a United Nations official warned on Tuesday.

Renaud Meyer, the country director for the Philippines of the UN Development Program (UNDP), said the two scenarios would likely increase incidences of corruption as means to mitigate adverse impact of the economic crisis and to bankroll politicians running for office in the polls.
