Culture of
dishonesty,
lawlessness and cruelty

On Tuesday, June 30, as 52
journalists representing Metro Manila and Mindanao-based media
organizations were proceeding to evacuation sites for war-displaced
persons in Datu Piang, Maguindanao, soldiers of the Army’s 46th
Infantry Battalion stopped the media convoy along the Cotabato-General
Santos highway.
Those in the lead car of the
nine-vehicle convoy were asked if they were from the media. The
soldiers could not tell the journalists why they were being held
against their will. They just said that they would be “released”
once “clearance” was given by Col. Medardo Geslani, commander of
the 601st Infantry Brigade.
